Assessment service
Parents do concern child’s development and behaviours. We all understand that early intervention and training are the key to facilitate child’s development, helping them to better adaptation in self care, social environment, and school life.
Basically, we have “diagnostic assessment” and “educational assessment”. Diagnostic assessment is mainly used for making diagnosis on rather a child has special education needs (SEN, like ASD, ADHD, SpLD etc.). In Hong Kong, should a child needs special education support (like Early Education & Training Centre, EETC, Integrated Child Care Centre, ICCC, or Special Child Care Centre, SCCC), he/she must possess a diagnostic report prepared by psychologist, pediatrician, or psychiatrist. However, many parents worry about the labeling effect will impact the child for the whole life.
The main purpose of Educational assessment is to provide the therapist and parents a full picture on the child’s situation, so as to design the intervention and training. Therapist will base on the result, advise if further, diagnostic assessment is needed. The advantage of having an educational assessment first are: (1) avoiding a “too-early labeling”; (2) the cost involved is lower; (3) the most important part is, the child will be assessed by two professionals. This can reduce the opportunity that the performance is being affected by environment or other uncontrollable factors. The result will be more reliable, and also early intervention or treatment is possible.
Assessment Item:
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Specific Learning Disability (SpLD)
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
Conduct Disorder (CD)
Anxiety / Depression
Assessment flow & fee:
Psychologist will adopt various assessment tools, interview with caregivers, and direct interaction with child, so as to gather information from multi-sources for assessing the risk of SEN, and also the strengths and weaknesses of the child. Also, from the result, the Psychologist is able to advise the intervention goal and direction. Usually, an educational assessment takes around 1.5 hours.
In case a further diagnostic assessment is recommended, the Psychologist will discuss with parents, and arrange a pediatrician or Educational Psychologist for conducting the assessment. The report from pediatrician can be used for applying the government services.(Applicable to ASD or ADHD only. Please communicate with therapist or doctor for assessing other special needs).

* Diagnostic assessment will be recommended only in needed. A separate appointment will be made with pediatrician.
